An Angel fallen, reclaiming herself and her identity.

I am, punished. By love.

An Angel, though plummeting.

The story unfolds as the Angel leaves her cove, her haven, into the world before returning to a chapel. In the process, her wings are shedded, as well as all she has known, before resorting to the most vulnerable self. Her trust is broken, she is battered and bruised, yet her respite is found within solitude and self preservation

This series came as a byproduct of Ethel Cain’s song Punish demo ii, one that I listen to on repeat and feel myself pouring my heart out to. To hear my name in media is nothing new, but in this way was beautifully gut wrenching.

This story reflects pieces of my own life, the constant transitions I am going through, and the becoming of oneself. My name has been Angel in every way that matters since birth, but it became who I truly am when I was a young teenager and first realising how I will never conform to what I am expected to. The angel in my story is hurt, but she finds her solace and in doing so finds her way of healing. Maybe we all do this, healing in ways that cannot be seen and rely only on the self. I have spent a lot of time alone, feeling every raw emotion at its full strength, suffocating in expanse spaces. But in those moments, I found the way through and the way out. And maybe that’s the only way it can happen.

I loved an Angel, and it made me weak.
